Kalimaran 2008 at Tenom, 26th April

Last saturday, Flory, Sze Ning and I went to Tenom to catch the Kalimaran festival celebrated by the Muruts of Sabah. It was one colorful do, with lots of people coming to see the crowning of the Kalimaran Queen (I couldn't wait for this) and also meet with family and friends. This was my first time to a Kalimaran as a photographer. Enjoy the photos!

I think the guy has the look of a headhunter, eyeshadow and all.

The Lansaran (trampoline) Jumping competition. The jumper has to touch the white wooden foot. They keep raising the height of the foot. This group came in third.

Miss Sabah World 2008

Hi there folks! This is a series of photos I took on assignment of Miss Sabah World. The results were quite shocking for some, including me, but I guess the judges had the final say. I think apart from a normal pageant show, the highlight of my shoot was having to photograph Jaclyn Victor live! I also managed to hook up with fellow photographers and bloggers Julian Lee and Benny Liew. Enjoy the photos!

Benny Liew's arm blocking me, but I took advantage to frame the photo. Thanks Benny! :)

Children of Keningau, Sabah, Borneo

Over the weekend, I was in Keningau with an NGO, taking photographs for their stock photos. I managed to photograph some children. Hope you enjoy the photos.

These series of fast shots was taken from inside the vehicle I was in. I stopped the vehicle and managed to get this boy jumping into the river. I was lucky the settings on my camera were okay, cos I wouldn't have had the time to reset it.

Effects: Zooming in/out

I would just like to share some photos which I played around with this effect. This is achieved by zooming in/out while shooting at a low shutter speed, hence catching the effect. The photos were taken at Cocoon while I was with an old college buddy who came to KK for a short visit.

This was a pure chance that I got this swirl effect. I zoomed in while repositioning my camera from horizontal to vertical position, all in low shutter speed.

Sucked the wind outta me!

Last week, I was taking photos for a Spa here in KK, but half way during the shoot, there was a electrical blackout, taking away the effect me and my photographic director, Gee, wanted. So we took a break, but I was offered a free treatment, getting the angin sucked out with suction cups.

First two are photos I took for the Spa's new promotion, the rest are photos of my ordeal.

The following series of photos was taken by my photographic director for the shoot, Gee from Tenryu Studio

Convinced by Gee it was okay.

So naive..tsk tsk

I always have this fear that the people doing this will mess up...

I never felt this kind of feeling before, getting your skin sucked!

It was a relief when the cups came off.

Ya, I look like I have a turtle shell on my back.

Final Cut of 'Drowned Forests and Damned Lives'

My friends from Center of Orang Asli Concerns (COAC) have finally come out with the final draft of their video 'Drowned Forests and Damned Lives'. I helped them out for just a few seconds worth of footage last December. Please watch the video. It might take some time to download but worth the wait.

Dinner is served!

Some friends and I were at Uomi Japanese Restaurant, D'Junction, recently, and the only available seating was in front of the grill/flat pan. It was really interesting what kind of ingredients they put into the food, e.g. butter, white wine, red wine, beef stock and other stuff I couldn't recognize. I didn't know that my friend JB actually ordered a plate of what was being cooked in front of me, and it tasted great! Despite the service being quite slow that night, due to a full house, and despite listening to a grown man behind our party complaining like a toddler about service, our food was served in a decent amount of time.

These are some pictures to show what I had to eat. Kobe Beef (I think) with bean sprouts.

Hyatt Bridal Fair

This is another photo assignment that combined a fashion show, close up photography and and low light photography. Hyatt organized a bridal show and vendors were invited to display their services, ranging from photography, to dresses, to cakes and even wines. Hyatt themselves also were promoting wedding packages, which I think was very impressive.

These are some of the photos I took.
