I had the privilage to cover this function on the 25th of March. I had anticipated a few potential problems on this shoot, mainly low light. But all went well coz the lights were super, I got a good spot to take photos from, and of course I had free flow of drinks! Well, these are photos of Kim, the winner, and one of Vanessa, the 2nd runner up. Enjoy.

Tattoos
Tattoos were taboos when I was growing up, but with the recent influence of Miami Ink and LA Ink, many are seeing tattoos more as an art form. I personally have three tattoos, but I dowan to show lah. But now, in KK, there are quite a number of tattoo parlors. With a 'valid' reason aka photo assignment, I went into 76th Street Tattoo Workshop at Gaya Street to get some shots, and also ask a price to do a tattoo. Prices are reasonable, now to think of another design.....
The artist acting like he is tattoo-ing....other guy is the other artist
Looked like some kind of tattoo award the shop won, its gold, or gold color lah.
If you want your tattoo to be inked on traditionally, opt for the Needle-on-a-Stick method, (its not a popsicle). I think I will stay away from this ancient method.
So, the location of the store is next to the famous bah kut teh shop across Jesselton Hotel. And guess who got hungry?

Night Shots of a different kind
I love taking night shots, especially with a tripod, and fooling around with shutter speed and f-stops. Those are with subjects that are stationary. Recently, Breeze Sabah, a new lifestyle magazine, asked me to take photos of the entertainment scene in KK. I have never done these kind of shots but I took up the challenge. Generally, 99% of my photos can be thrown out, but these are some that are worth showing, plus a photo of my friends whom I bumped into.

Cocoon (the band is great)

Wine Rack at Shennenigans, locked...
My sober friends at Shennenigans
'Don't dare touch my Heinie!' at Spurs, Asia City (Mr. Heineken, pls give me free beer if you see this)
Experimental shot, promoting Heineken (Mr. Heineken, pls give me free beer if you see this) at Spurs again

Inspired!
Finally, last weekend, I got to hear from the guru, Louis Pang on how he takes Extraordinary Photos. He emphasised that no matter what photography equipment you have, you can take extraordinary photos. I am so inspired! I know many photographers out there who are just starting out, finds it hard to get inspiration and carve out our own style, but I think after listening to the guidelines that Louis uses, it is achievable.
Here are some photos of the workshop:
The man himself, Louis Pang
A demo of how to get a couple have more natural expressions in their photos. So, whoever brought their camera that day, started shooting away, me included.
A shot using tungsten light. Nice effect and I think I will invest in a cheap video light also. Epson staff was the model. Again, all the kiasu attendees were shooting away, me included.

Drowned Forests and Damned Lives
Hi everyone,
'Drowned Forests and Damned Lives'is a video by my friends at the Center of Orang Asli Concerns. Please take time to watch the video and listen to the struggles of Indigenous People and how they are being pushed around by the authorities.

Dark Rain
This is a very dark picture, but that was the light level when i took the photo. It was raining ahead of me, and it was only around 5pm and it got really dark.

Fun photos of children
It's a wonder how children in the kampungs can find the simplest game and do it over and over. I took this photo in Nabawan when shooting Rofley and Carol's wedding. I was on my way to the toilet when the children asked me to take their photo rolling down the hill. Having nothing to lose and 2 gig of memory left, I 'shot' them lah. Just wondered how they could stand not getting 'itchy' from playing around like that.

Kionsom Waterfalls
I went on a short excursion to the Kionsom Waterfalls yesterday. I don't remember it to be so beautiful 15 years ago. All I remember was that, I was so uncomfortable cos my glasses kept fogging up. Well, 15 years later, with contact lenses and a DSLR, I came back, and these are some photos to share. I will surely bring my family here. Tidak rugi lah!
